It has been two months since late Kim Sae-Ron’s family alleged that Kim Soo-Hyun dated their daughter for six long years. They said his denial of their relationship caused her a lot of emotional distress. In other accusations, there were also claims how she faced immense financial pressure due to the demand of 700 million Korean won from Goldmedalist. They were also allegations of stalking and writing defamatory articles against the deceased actress by Lee Jin-Ho. Within a week, Kim Soo-Hyun’s reputation crashed. He faced unprecedented hate on social media, advertisers dropped him and his big budget project, Knock Off is put on. He has filed multiple lawsuits on Garosero and the family of the actress. As the date for the court case draws closer, let us revisit some of the scary aspects of the case…
Cyberbullying Equates Justice?
Ever since the allegations came, Kim Soo-Hyun faced immense hate where netizens even wrote that he should be dead, or commit suicide. This was even before the case went to court. The main crux is the claim of underage dating. Kim Soo-Hyun has submitted his evidence to the court, and now it left to the investigating agencies. The actor’s silence might have worsened the situation but there seem to be millions who want him to submit his evidence on social media. The timeline of the case is confusing and matching evidence with claims is going to take a lot of time. What is shocking is that people just do not seem to believe that if a person is accused of paedophilia then let the law takes its course.
Engagement farming on hate posts
It is no secret that hateful posts on X gets more engagement, and people cashed in on that aspect like real pros. We saw it happen after his press conference as netizens mocked everything from his alleged fake hair to AI script and what not. It is evident that some of these posts were done for engagement. And people seemed to be having fun doing so. Is there no legislation that can stop such clownery on social media especially when serious allegations are involved?
Cancel culture supremacy
Actors like Im-Siwan, Ahn Bo-Hyun and Jung Hae-In were also caught in the mess. Netizens demanded that they severe ties with Kim Soo-Hyun. Well, unlike keyboard warriors, these are real people who have had long – time relations with the actor. They would definitely like to wait for the Court’s decision before joining the bandwagon of cancel culture. The level of hate thrown at these people would truly make people believe that social media has successfully dehumanized us all.
Zero interest in true justice for Kim Sae-Ron
It was surprising to see that there was no zero interest in knowing more about the husband of the late actress despite the claims of horrific abuse. Many netizens dismissed it saying the relationship was between ‘adults’ without sparing a thought for the abuse she might have endured. Was this because the alleged husband was not a celebrity?
Toxic social media culture enabling cyber-wreckers
This has been perhaps the most glaring aspect of the case. With millions taking digital evidence at face value, and delivered justice on platforms like X and Instagram, cyber-wreckers can easily believe they have the upper hand. Now, Garosero is facing some heat as the recording is being labelled as AI generated as per experts. But then, who would even dare to present false evidence in a case as serious as this? We are seeing Lee Jin-Ho countering what Garosero has said in his lives. Many believe that this whole thing is nothing more than a war between these two YouTubers. But who has ultimately paid the price?
In this entire matter, the private lives of the two actors have been laid bare before the world. While Kim Soo-Hyun is still alive to defend himself, Kim Sae-Ron is gone. It is undeniably tragic given her young age, acting talent and unfulfilled dreams. It is easy to understand why her pain has resonated with many, but with the nature of allegations, this is a matter best reserved for the courts.
