Marc Marquez Emphasizes the Importance of Gigi Dall’Igna in His Ducati Decision

Marc Marquez has revealed that Gigi Dall’Igna’s presence at Ducati was a pivotal factor in his decision to join the team in 2025. Marquez, a MotoGP champion, sought assurance about Dall’Igna’s commitment before finalizing his contract with Ducati, highlighting the engineer’s significant influence on his career move.

Marquez, speaking candidly, stated that his relationship with Dall’Igna has always been transparent and sincere. He emphasized that his move to Ducati was primarily driven by his confidence in Dall’Igna’s engineering prowess. “For me, the most crucial aspect of 2025 and 2026 is ensuring Gigi remains at Ducati. If not, there’s no point in discussing further,” Marquez explained, underscoring the importance of Dall’Igna’s role in the Corse department.

Reflecting on what he might have done if Dall’Igna had chosen to leave Ducati, Marquez mentioned he would have reconsidered his options. “If Gigi were to leave, I would have evaluated many other factors. I might have even asked where he was heading next,” he noted, highlighting the significant influence Dall’Igna has on his decisions. Marquez and Dall’Igna’s professional relationship dates back to 2017 and 2018, a period during which Marquez was firmly committed to Honda and uninterested in exploring other offers.

Marquez is determined to compete for the MotoGP title in 2025, armed with Ducati’s latest GP25 machine. Currently, he remains a title contender this year with Gresini, riding year-old equipment. However, his upcoming seasons with Ducati’s official team offer a prime opportunity to secure his seventh MotoGP championship.

The relationship between a top rider and a leading engineer can significantly impact a team’s performance and success. Marquez’s insistence on Dall’Igna’s presence at Ducati underscores the critical role of technical expertise and leadership in achieving MotoGP glory.
