Las Vegas woman dies in rollover crash

On Sunday afternoon, a rollover accident on Interstate 25 claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman from Las Vegas. Although two additional occupants in the car were hurt, authorities say they should live. The accident involving just one vehicle claimed Desiree Apodaca’s life. She was sitting in the car’s front passenger seat. The 20-year old individual driving the automobile exited the roadway for reasons still under investigation by State Police, and the vehicle toppled. Just past the Villanueva exit (Exit 323) on northbound I-25, the collision happened. According to the police, Apodaca and the male driver were ejected from the car because they failed to properly fasten their seatbelts. At the scene of the collision, Apodaca was declared dead, and the male driver and a 3-year-old girl.

The child was transported by ground to a trauma center in Santa Fe, while the man was airlifted to Albuquerque, where they were treated for their injuries. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in Sunday’s accident. The crash occurred just after 3:15 p.m. Sunday. The incident led to the closure of I-25 for well over an hour as first responders arrived on scene and the investigation began.

We apologize for the errors in the previous version of this story. According to Desiree Apodaca’s family, the Optic received inaccurate information from the Las Vegas Fire Department and New Mexico State Police about the vehicle involved and the location where the surviving victims were taken to receive medical attention for their injuries.
