Fire destroys shed, damages home and barn in Avon township Saturday

AVON TOWNSHIP — A shed fire damaged a house and barn, and all contents of the shed were lost Saturday afternoon, according to a media release from the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.

 

No one was injured in the fire.

 

Homeowner Brian Gertken, a 47-year-old Avon man, reported he heard a loud boom and then spotted his outdoor wood boiler and shed on fire.

 

The 30 feet by 60 feet shed 30-by-60-foot shed was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, according to the release. Two vehicles and two four-wheelers inside the shed were lost.

The fire damaged the siding on a nearby house and a barn had heat damage, but neither caught fire. Gertken got out all four cattle that had been in the barn.

 

The fire took place in the 34000 block of Smiley Drive in Avon Township around 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Avon Fire Department, Albany Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance responded to the call. And the fire is still under investigation.
