Last month the football world learned that the homes of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were broken into ahead of the team’s game against the New Orleans Saints.
A South American crime ring is believed to be responsible for the burglaries of the homes of Kelce and Mahomes, though local police haven’t confirmed any suspects at this point. Updates from the case have been sparse, but last week ABC News reported a watch stolen from Kelce’s home was recovered in Rhode Island.
He’s yet to comment on the situation publicly, but a new report suggests he’s ready to take action.
According to a report from the U.S. Sun, Kelce is still “very upset” over the break-in and is planning to beef up security around his home now that his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, will be spending more time there.
“Travis is going to set a new alarm system not to be a target of a possible burglary as he is doing some work in the house and will have more of Taylor’s stuff in there, too,” a source told the U.S. Sun.
Among the valuables stolen from Kelce’s home, in addition to the recovered watch, was $20,000 in cash, another $100,000 worth of jewelry and his first Super Bowl jersey, according to the report.
“That first Super Bowl shirt is essential from him,” the source told the Sun. “It’s a reminder of one of the biggest achievements in his career and life so far, and he hopes to get it back.”
Last week the Leawood Police Department issued a statement amid the investigation claiming they’re still searching for “investigative leads.”
“Leawood Police Department will not comment on any open investigations. Our agency follows up on all investigative leads and works closely with victims to solve open cases. The Leawood Police Department is dedicated to the public we serve and will work tirelessly to ensure the City of Leawood remains one of the safest cities in the State of Kansas,” the department said in a statement.
Kelce, meanwhile, will have his attention on Friday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
