Just Now: Six people killed in crash on Highway 93 in Jasper National Park

Six people were murdered and numerous more were hospitalized in two wrecks on a highway between Banff and Jasper on Tuesday night. The RCMP is looking into these incidents. Five kilometers south of Sunwapta Falls, on the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park, the first crash occurred at five o’clock in the evening.

According to the police, a van that was heading north on the highway collided with a car that was heading south. At the site, four occupants of the southbound car passed away. In the van was a visiting family of five from the United States. A toddler was brought to the hospital but was not hurt in the collision, while two of the occupants were pronounced dead at the spot and two others were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. In an attempt to avoid the collision, a third car ended up in the ditch. The passengers only had minor wounds.

When Gagan Sidhu saw the collision while traveling to Stony Plain, he told CTV News that it appeared as though the two cars had crashed head-on. “I think it was a head-on collision because I could see the front of the car bent so badly,” he remarked. “It was a really awful scene.” Many individuals stopped to offer assistance, he claims, but it was impossible to contact 911 due to the patchy cell reception in the area. He stated, “We could see two cars just beginning to burn heavily in the fire.” “They were burning and in the middle of the road.”

Sidhu said that while they waited for emergency personnel to arrive, onlookers attempted to put out the fires with shovels and extinguishers. According to Sidhu, “We had to battle the fire from the burning cars because it was moving toward the trees.” “Three or four people carrying fire extinguishers were present.” “The public played a crucial role in saving lives and providing assistance to everyone they could,” stated Sergeant Rick Bidaisee of the Jasper RCMP Detachment in a statement. “We are grateful to everyone who helped us out so kindly.”
