Six dead after multi-vehicle collision on Banff-Jasper highway

Six people have perished in a highway crash in Alberta’s picturesque Jasper National Park, including two American tourists.

The crash occurred on Tuesday at approximately 5 p.m. on the Icefields Parkway, approximately 60 kilometers south of the Jasper townsite, close to the Honeymoon Lake campground.

According to RCMP Cpl. Laurel Scott, a collision between a van carrying five family members from Texas and Louisiana and a southbound car caused both to catch fire. The van was traveling north. All four occupants of the second vehicle perished, but their names remained a mystery. Two of the Americans in the van passed away immediately, while the other two were sent to the hospital. Scott reported that the two-year-old unharmed in the van.

She declared on Wednesday, “Miraculously, a young toddler survived with no injuries.” According to CTV News, the deceased included Louisianan Angela Elkins and her son-in-law, Texas’ Nick Copeland. Elkins’ daughter Sarah and husband Curtis were transferred to hospitals in Edmonton and were listed as seriously ill.

According to Scott, two occupants of a third automobile that had driven off the road to avoid the collision had minor injuries. A veteran Australian firefighter was among the several passing motorists that stopped to help people out of the vehicles, according to her. When Gagan Sidhu of Surrey, British Columbia, and his wife and daughter observed black smoke on the highway, they assumed it was a forest fire. He stepped out to provide assistance as they approached and witnessed the smoking wreckage of two cars.
