10 persons dead, 5 seriously injured after car crashes into utility pole in Powell, Rural Metro says

An automobile struck a utility pole near Powell, breaking it in half, according to officials. One person died and one was critically injured.

According to Kimberly Glenn, director of communications for the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the agency is responding to a fatal collision that occurred in Powell. Around 10:30 on Monday morning, according to Rural Metro Fire, a car struck a pole in the 7900 block of Collier Road. Officials reported that when emergency personnel arrived, the automobile had crashed and split the power pole in half. The driver was killed and the passenger was thrown from the automobile; Rural Metro reported that the passenger was listed in serious condition.

As one of many Knox County highways lacking a shoulder, Rural Metro pleaded with motorists to slow down in order to prevent collisions. On Monday, the route was closed for a few hours. No further details, including the victim’s identification, have been made public.
