Today, October 5, 2018, South African National Parks (SANParks) revealed that two day visitors were involved in a fatal car accident yesterday late afternoon while traveling between the Olifants and Letaba camps in the Kruger National Park (KNP). According to preliminary accounts, there didn’t seem to be any other vehicles involved. The SAPS is currently looking into the incident and its surroundings. Emergency responders and rangers raced to help, but sadly nothing could be done to save the tourists’ lives. The vehicle drove off the road and flipped, according to witnesses; the two occupants were ejected and declared dead at the spot.
In response to the news, Glenn Phillips, the Managing Executive of the KNP, sent his deepest sympathies to the bereaved families. “Losing a loved one is always terrible, and we send our condolences to their families at this trying time. We sent emergency medical staff to help those injured as soon as we learned about the event. I want to express my gratitude to my coworkers for responding to the incident. In addition, we would like to make a plea to everyone to refrain from conjecturing about the situation and to give the SAPS the time it needs to carry out its investigation, the findings of which will be given to the families at the proper time.We would like to remind park visitors to abide by the traffic laws.
