A vehicle traveling the incorrect way on Interstate 75 caused a crash early on Tuesday that left two people dead and one child injured, according to Chattanooga police.
According to a news release, the incident happened just north of the Shallowford Road overpass close to Hamilton Place at around two in the morning.
The 37-year-old female driver of a Nissan Sentra was apparently traveling south in the interstate’s northbound lanes. According to reports, she ran into a 65-year-old man driving a Honda Accord. After his car lost control, a semitrailer struck it once again. Authorities say that both drivers passed away at the site. A young passenger on the Sentra was brought to a hospital due to injuries that could potentially be fatal. According to authorities, the semitrailer’s driver was unharmed. The collision on Tuesday caused the freeway to close for many hours.
