BREAKING: Two Malaysian students die, three hospitalised in horror NZ crash

Today, a road accident in Lake Tekapo, New Zealand, claimed the lives of two Malaysian students. Three more Malaysian students wounded in the same accident have been transported to Christchurch Hospital in the South Islands for medical care, according to a statement released today by Wisma Putra. “The victims and their relatives are receiving the appropriate consular aid from the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington, with help from the Malaysian community in Christchurch, to ensure that the welfare management of all casualties goes smoothly. “Wisma Putra and the Malaysian High Commission stand ready to assist should the families decide to repatriate the deceased to Malaysia,” added the statement. The ministry also sent its sympathies to the relatives of the incident’s victims.

Three persons lost their lives in a multi-vehicle incident on State Highway 8 close to Lake Pukaki, according to a statement released by New Zealand police. It stated that a collision involving two cars and a motorcycle on State Highway 8 close to Lake Pukaki resulted in five more hospital admissions. According to the statement, which quoted Inspector Craig McKay, police district operations and support manager, there were two crashes on the same stretch of road in less than two hours, each involving at least 20 people. Both emergency services and members of the public are in shock following the three-vehicle crashes.

The earlier crash happened between Hayman Road and Tekapo Canal Road about 1.30pm.

“Despite the best efforts of those first at the scene, three people were unable to be saved.

“Several of the injured were trapped in the wreckage and needed to be cut out. Three of the injured have been flown to hospital.

“One of the deceased was a motorcyclist while the two others who lost their lives were travelling together in one of the cars.

“We are in the early stages of the investigation to determine what caused this tragic event,” read the statement.
