A decision to decrease the size of Nigeria’s official delegation to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will take place in September in New York, United States, was given by President Bola Tinubu on Saturday.

Femi Gbajabiamila, Tinubu’s chief of staff, disclosed the directive on Saturday in Abuja during a one-day retreat for heads of government departments within its purview that was arranged by the State House management.

“Strengthening Institutional Mechanism for Effective Delivery” was the themed one-day retreat.

The Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, made this announcement in a statement headed “President Tinubu directs that only authorised officials with business at UNGA should attend.

“There were talks about reduction in the cost of governance during recent protests,” the Chief of Staff stated, addressing the retreat attendees. Everyone is anticipating if Nigeria will send the “largest delegation” to the UNGA, as it has in the past.
