Gretzky, affectionately known as “The Great One,” died from effects of lung cancer, a disease he has heroically battled in recent years. Gretzky’s contributions to the sport of hockey are unrivaled. With a career spanning two decades, he reinvented the game and established records that still stand today. His exceptional vision on the ice, along with an incredible ability to anticipate plays, gave him an unrivaled reputation. He retired with a whopping 61 NHL records, including the most career points, goals, and assists. Born in Brantford, Ontario, in 1961.
