Sunday in the League Cup final.
When Rangers took the lead, things weren’t looking good, but like all great champions, Brendan Rodgers witnessed his team rally and win a historic match. Celtic has won 119 trophies, more than any other team in Scottish football history, and the Bhoys are justifiably at the top of the standings. In 20 games with Rangers, Rodgers has only lost once, and Philippe Clement, the opposing coach, has yet to defeat the Irishman. Chris Sutton wanted to give the Rangers manager some messages following Celtic’s victory against Rangers via penalty shootout.
Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou returned to Glasgow with Tottenham a few days prior to the cup final, when the two teams drew 1-1 in the Europa League against Rangers.
After the cup final victory, Sutton quickly put an end to Clement’s outbursts about Spurs and Celtic having “greater budgets” than his Rangers team.
In an interview with It’s All Kicking Off Podcast, the former striker correctly pointed out that Rangers are 11 points behind Celtic in the standings and that he “failed to mention” that their budget is “considerably bigger” than everyone else’s in the league, but they aren’t making it matter. “Big Phil discussed budgets last week, and Rangers were playing Tottenham and Celtic, two teams with bigger budgets,” Sutton stated.
