Former NFL cornerback D.J. Hayden is among six people who were killed early Saturday morning in a horrific car crash in Houston, according to multiple reports
He was just 33 years old.
USA Today reported that police received a call of a traffic accident around 2 a.m. Saturday. The wreck reportedly involved a Chrysler 300 and an Acura SUV. The site said that police said the Chrysler was at fault after they said it ran a red light a high rate of speed.
Four people were dead at the scene and four others were taken to hospitals, USA Today said. Two of those people died during transport.
The Houston Chronicle reported that former Houston cornerback Zach McMillan, a college teammate of Hayden’s, was also killed in the crash.
Hayden was a feel-good story in the 2013 NFL Draft. He suffered a life-threatening heart injury at Houston, but was still able to recover enough to earn a first-round selection by the Raiders.
He played for the Raiders through the 2016 season, and then spent time with the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Commanders before calling it a career in 2021.
