One person has died, and another remains missing after a boat capsized near Bodega Bay on Monday morning. This incident marks the second boat accident in less than a week on the Sonoma Coast, an area currently experiencing hazardous ocean conditions.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office received a report around 7 a.m. of an overturned boat near Bodega Bay. Rescue crews pulled one person from the water, performing CPR, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person is still missing.
Just two days earlier, a 21-foot boat capsized near Carmet Beach, with six people on board. Rescuers found an 11-year-old boy alive and another person deceased. Four remain missing.
Rough seas, with swells reaching 8-10 feet and fierce wind gusts up to 30 mph, have made conditions especially treacherous.
The National Weather Service advises inexperienced mariners to avoid the area. Dillion emphasized the importance of checking weather forecasts, using marine radios, and bringing life jackets.
Anyone with information on the missing boaters is encouraged to contact the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office at 707-565-2121.
