After a terrible series of injury issues, Mikel Arteta is nearly fully recovered at Arsenal. Returning to the first team roster, captain Martin Odegaard was instrumental in Saturday’s victory over Nottingham Forest. Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori, who had both been out by injury this season, were also in the starting lineup. Both Mikel Merino and Bukayo Saka, who has struggled throughout the season, contributed fully.
Declan Rice, Ben White, and Kai Havertz were the only notable absences on Saturday; however, the former two were barely noticeable because they were both on the bench as substitutes. Along with Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney, who is back in training, White has been out for a long time.
Arteta and Arsenal may reconsider their January transfer intentions if they recover to nearly full strength. The Gunners aren’t generally very active during the January window, but given their injury issues, they might have considered making some transfers during that time.
However, any possible transfers might now have to wait until the summer. In January, Arteta might add one player to his team, but Gunners fans would recognize the name. Although he has been on loan at Fulham for the beginning of the season, Reiss Nelson has only started three games, the last three of which have been in the Premier League.
Both he and the Gunners, who would have preferred for him to see some experience before returning to the Emirates Stadium next summer, will be concerned about his lack of playing time. If the season-long loan agreement is not deemed successful, it may be terminated.
