According to officials, a 24-year-old woman from Las Vegas died in a severe solo-vehicle collision that occurred early Thursday along the 15 Freeway near Yermo.
The California Highway Patrol reported the flaming collision shortly after 12:40 a.m. on the interstate just east of Ghost Town Road in the unincorporated hamlet of San Bernardino County, approximately 8 miles east of Barstow.
According to CHP Officer Shane Hernandez, the lady was traveling south in a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer at an undetermined speed right before the collision. One of the passengers was a woman from Riverside, age 22.
The SUV drove to the right and onto the desert “for reasons still under investigation,” he said. It went on until it ran into a metal barrier.

He said that when the car rolled, the driver was flung off it. She was eventually declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
CHP files show that the SUV was burning so badly that a good Samaritan who attempted to assist was unable to approach it.
According to authorities, the passenger was able to exit the car and sought assistance at a nearby petrol station. According to investigators, she refused to be transported to a hospital despite having what seemed to be minor injuries.
The name of the lady died in the collision was not made public until San Bernardino County coroner’s authorities notified her relatives.
