Man dead after 20-foot fall from houseboat in Lake Powell

One man is dead after falling overboard from a houseboat on Lake Powell Sunday.

 

According to a press release, at 3 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, National Park Service (NPS) Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Rangers were notified by San Juan County Utah dispatch of a missing person who fell from a houseboat on Lake Powell in Wetherill Canyon.

The victim, later identified as 41-year-old Jackson Roy Law, had reportedly fallen over 20 feet from an upper level of a privately owned houseboat. Law was a Utah resident.

 

NPS rangers and the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area with assistance from The Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation. Classic Air Medical searched the area by helicopter but was unable to find the victim.

 

The release stated that Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Dive Team recovered Law’s body Sunday at 12:36 p.m. NPS rangers pronounced Law dead on scene.

 

The incident remains under investigation by the National Park Service, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, and San Juan County Medical Examiner’s Office.

 

In the release, the National Park Service and San Juan County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to the family.

 

A GoFundMe has been started to help Law’s family with funeral expenses.
