Phoenix, Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park (KPHO/Gray News) – Following a tumble at Grand Canyon National Park on Wednesday, a college student passed away. A visitor who fell from the rim around a quarter mile west of the Pipe Creek overlook was reported to the park authorities, who took action. First responders discovered that Abel Joseph Mejia, 20, had fallen almost 400 feet below the rim, according to park officials. His body was recovered by responders using a high-angle technical rescue system. Mejia was unintentionally falling when he was close to the edge, according to the investigators. His death is being looked into by the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office and the National Park Service.
