Sad news: College student dies after falling 400 feet off rim of Grand Canyon

A visitor who fell from the rim around a quarter mile west of the Pipe Creek overlook was reported to the park authorities, who took action. First responders discovered that Abel Joseph Mejia, 20, had fallen almost 400 feet below the rim, according to park officials. His body was recovered by responders using a high-angle technical rescue system. Mejia was unintentionally falling when he was close to the edge, according to the investigators.
