Sadly, 34-year-old man killed in crash into power line pole in Oakdale, CHP says

The driver of a 2012 Audi sedan was southbound in the “slow lane” of South Yosemite when he veered left into the northbound lanes and continued onto the raised concrete curb before hitting the Pacific Gas & Electric pole. The crash happened north of Wakefield Drive and resulted in the death of the driver, according to the Modesto Fire Department. The victim was a 34-year-old man from Waterford, according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol. At approximately 1:40 a.m., Engine 28, Engine 27, and Battalion Chief 5 responded to a car wrapped around a power pole. The CHP got its call shortly after 2 a.m.

The driver, who was buckled up, was the only one in the vehicle. According to the announcement, it is yet unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. It says nothing about braking efforts or speed. For around twenty minutes, the crews tried to extract the driver. Paramedics declared him dead at the site, per the event summary report from MFD. As of Sunday morning, The Modesto Bee had not been able to identify the motorist. The names of deceased individuals are not released by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office until the next of kin have been notified.
