In the vicinity of Rocky Gap State Park, the four lifeguards were traveling on Interstate 68 when a pickup truck rolled over and onto its side. With lightning speed, the four women took action. After calling 911, Marissa Adams, Sofia Ottaviani, Samantha Preaskorn, and Adri Meadors pulled over and went to the truck to provide assistance.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources reports that a family of six people was found inside the vehicle. They were leaving Rocky Gap and going home. In the wrecked truck were four kids, ranging in age from one to eleven. By severing windows and cutting seatbelts, the lifeguards were able to securely extract the kids. Still in bathing suits from their time at the park, the lifeguards gave the youngsters towels and took them to their car to keep warm. After that, they returned to assist the parents who were still inside.

After some time, they managed to take off the truck’s windshield and extract the father without incident. When emergency medical services arrived, they succeeded in freeing the mother as well.

Staff members at Rocky Gap and the Department of Natural Resources are proud of Marissa, Sofia, Samantha, and Adri’s work; they showed the boldness and fast thinking that make lifeguards so crucial both on and off the water, according to a news release from a spokeswoman.
