BREAKING: 18-year-old volunteer firefighter dies following house fire in Taylorsville

Around 1:10 a.m. on Saturday, personnel were dispatched to the 1000 block of Bloomfield Road in response to reports of eight persons who were reportedly trapped inside, according to the Taylor-Spencer County Fire Protection District. Crews discovered one individual was still inside the house when they arrived a few minutes later, and there was a significant fire and smoke coming from it.

When firefighters entered, they discovered a murdered adolescent, subsequently identified as James Nation, 18, inside. James was a recent graduate of Spencer County High School and had previously volunteered at the department, according to family members who spoke with WHAS11 News.

James received instruction from Taylorsville Fire Chief Nathan Nation to become a volunteer firefighter in the community. James was characterized by Chief Nation as “someone who’s just getting going in life.” “I can remember an event we had out at the high school when he was a senior last year,” he said. “You could just tell he had ambitions, graduating high school which he did, and moving onto a career as a mechanic.” James worked for AutoZone as well. “He really enjoyed mechanical work and aspired to have a successful career as a mechanic,” Chief Nation said.
