The Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Bank of America Roval 400, which will honor two legendary NASCAR drivers, Carl Edwards and Ricky Rudd, as Co-Grand Marshals, promises to be a memorable occasion. It is this race that will establish the vital Round of 8 cutoffs. In recognition of their ongoing contributions to the sport, Edwards and Rudd will both be admitted as members of the Class of 2025 into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, Edwards, who goes by “Cousin Carl,” has won more than 20 races and multiple crown jewel events.
With nearly 20 wins under his belt, Rudd—nicknamed “Rooster”—is most remembered for his six victories on road courses, which were uncommon on the NASCAR schedule at the time.
Although I’ve never had the opportunity to race on the ROVALTM, road course racing has always fit my driving style, so I’m eager to visit Charlotte and learn more about it,” Rudd stated. “Being able to see the race, visit with the fans and give the command is going to be really special.” It is impossible to overestimate the significance of these two legends attending the Roval 400, which is consistent with NASCAR’s recent initiatives to pay tribute to its past and recognize the achievements of its previous drivers. “Every time I race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the fall, it feels a little bit like coming home,” said Greg Walter, general manager and president of the track. “That will be particularly true this year when Ricky and Carl are returning as co-grand marshals.
Observing them engage with the audience and feel the excitement of ROVALTM racing during the Playoffs will be a lot of fun.” Beyond their ceremonial roles, Edwards and Rudd’s involvement in the Roval 400 represents a common heritage and a show of appreciation for the sport’s legends. It will serve as a masterful reminder of just how amazing this sport is as they control the start of the competition.
