Sadly, SA teenagers killed in horror Augusta Hwy crash identified as ‘beautiful’ young couple

Sweethearts who will always be with their “one true love,” the teenage pair who perished in a horrific incident on a notorious highway in South Australia’s Mid North on Tuesday, have been recalled. When the automobile drifted onto the wrong side of the highway and crashed into a tree in Lochiel, learner driver Jaxson Montague was behind the wheel, with his girlfriend Ashanti Smith in the backseat and his dad watching from the front passenger seat. The three Port Pirie residents were driving down Augusta Highway when, shortly before 7:30 p.m., their car pulled off the road.

The two teenagers, Jaxson, 19, and Ashanti, 17, passed away at the scene, and Jaxson’s father, 46, was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital with critical injuries. As of Wednesday afternoon, his status is still critical.

On Wednesday, loved ones paid respects to the young couple at the crash scene, while others did so online. Elizabeth Smith, Ashanti’s grandmother, wrote that the family was experiencing a nightmare from which it hoped to awaken. “Our hearts are broken, our beautiful granddaughter,” she uttered. “You’ll always be youthful. It won’t be like that again, as much as I wish you would just phone or stroll through the door. What I would give to hug you one more time, Ashanti. You and your one and only true love, Jaxson, will always be in our hearts.
