BREAKING: Armed police seal off Doncaster street after reports of gunman firing at officers

After hearing rumors that a guy was shooting at police, armed police descended into a street in Doncaster tonight and sealed it off. Ambulances and a police aircraft are reportedly circling the area of Highwoods Road, Mexborough, where there is a significant police presence. It is known that a cordon is in place and that the homes of the surrounding inhabitants are under lockdown.

Things began to “boil over,” according to one eyewitness, at around 6-7 p.m., following a massive gathering of people in the street.

The police were called, they dispersed the gathering, and the street was blocked off as a result, the reported. Police with guns drawn are dispatched to the location after it is alleged that shots were fired from within a building towards policemen. “At least four teams of firearms officers were stationed across from the property with lights and guns trained on an upstairs window,” the eyewitness stated.

“There was one squad stationed near the field at the back of the house, and another team in the alleyway to the right of the house.”

Unverified reports state that a man was later taken into custody at the location, even though the cordon is still said to be in place. We have requested further information from Yorkshire Ambulance Service and South Yorkshire Police. South Yorkshire Police and the Ambulance Service have been responding to another emergency incident on Greens Way in Mexborough tonight, with the road closed close to the Adwick Road junction. This is believed to be a distinct and unrelated incident.
