BREAKING: Community mourns deaths of young officer and family in single-vehicle crash

Louisiana State Police provided additional data on Saturday surrounding the crash that claimed the life of a young officer and his family.

The single-vehicle collision happened on Friday just after five o’clock, according to troopers. The collision on Louisiana Highway 13 close to Bluefish Road in Lyons Point was reported to Louisiana State Police.

Three Crowley residents were killed in the crash: Jovanta Fluegence, 27, Amber Davy, 26, and Caroline Fluegence, 2. A 2003 Toyota 4Runner was driving south on LA Hwy 13 when it drifted off the road to the right, according to Louisiana State Police. The Toyota reportedly went into a ditch, hit a culvert, took off, and flipped onto its roof, according to state police. According to the statement, all three passengers died at the site after suffering severe injuries. Additionally, according to state police, the passengers were partially thrown from the car and were not restrained.

Since the deaths’ public announcement, hundreds of words of support for the families have been posted on social media. “It was undoubtedly a great tragedy. The news of what transpired with him and his family is heartbreaking,” alderman Brian Mouton of the city remarked. In addition to defending our neighborhood, Mouton said, “many people thought of him as a true friend.” The young man was climbing the ranks because of his great work ethic. All I can do is offer up prayers for both Detective Fluegence and Amber, his fiancée.

The Lafayette City Marshal’s Office provided the following remarks regarding the deaths: With sad hearts, we offer our sincere sympathies to Detective Javonta Flugence’s family, friends, and the Rayne Police Department. Our community is severely affected by the untimely loss of Detective Flugence, his fiancée Amber Davy, and their baby daughter Caroline. In this time of deep loss, the entire staff of the Lafayette City Marshal’s Office, including Marshal Reggie Thomas, stands with you. We ask for peace and courage for everyone experiencing this unfathomable loss.”

Additionally, the Scott Police Department sent out this condolence message: The families of Rayne Police Detective Javonta Fluegence, his fiancée Amber Davy, and their daughter Caroline Fluegence are the recipients of the condolences from Chief Chad Leger and the officers of the Scott Police Department. This young family was tragically killed in a car crash, leaving the neighborhood in mourning. In their hour of grief, the Scott Police Department stands with the Rayne Police Department. In response to the sad losses, Attorney General Liz Murrill released a statement:
