So far, Liverpool has not done much in the summer transfer window; new head coach Arne Slot has not yet been treated to his first signing.
Some departures have occurred: Adrian and Joel Matip have left following the expiration of their contracts, and Thiago Alcantara has announced his retirement from soccer. Slot has not yet seen the entirety of the squad that Jurgen Klopp, the former coach, gave him; important players are taking a postponed summer break because of international tournaments.
In the meantime, Slot may refrain from submitting any requests to the board, and Klopp acknowledged that he was pleased with the team of players that he had assembled. Liverpool has still made connections with new signings, but with a new sporting director and coach, its focus has shifted.
Liverpool’s first friendly under Slot ended with Preston North End’s 1-0 victory in a behind-closed-doors game. In the United States, where Liverpool faces formidable opponents on its preseason tour, Slot will have a thorough examination of his squad.
