Former NBA player Delonte West was arrested on Thursday in Virginia on charges of resisting arrest and violating the conditions of his release. Both charges are classified as misdemeanors. West, who is 40 years old, was held at the Fairfax County Detention Center with a bond set at $2,000. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday morning.

Authorities reported that West was located at 1 a.m. in Groveton, Virginia, when they attempted to serve a warrant. Upon their arrival, West fled, leading to a brief pursuit. Police found him unresponsive shortly after.

Officers administered Narcan, a drug used to counteract opioid overdoses, when West did not initially respond to the treatment. He was then taken to the hospital, where a second dose of Narcan was given. Once he was stable, West was transported to jail.

This arrest follows a previous incident in October 2022, where West was detained in Fairfax County. Witnesses at that time reported that he attempted to enter a vehicle that was not his. The charges from that incident included vehicle trespassing, entering a vehicle, fleeing from law enforcement, and public intoxication.

Delonte West had an eight-season career in the NBA, playing for teams such as the Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Dallas Mavericks. His post-NBA life has been marred by legal troubles and health issues, highlighting the difficulties some athletes face after their professional careers end.
