Obvious Mike Tyson substitute for Jake Paul bout acknowledges it’s a ‘wonderful idea’ A replacement for Mike Tyson has refused to rule out seeing Jake Paul in the ring this year, after the July 20 fight has been postponed and needs to be rearranged.

Roy Jones Jr. has hinted at maybe battling Jake Paul. It follows the postponing of the YouTuber-turned-boxer’s match against Mike Tyson.

Iron Mike was all ready to face Paul on July 20 in Texas. However, the event has been postponed indefinitely since Tyson is declared medically unfit to fight after suffering an ulcer flare-up during a recent flight.

Jones Jr. had sparred with Tyson for eight rounds in an exhibition battle four years ago, which was not scored officially. And now, the former multiple-weight world champion is eager to fill in for Tyson.

“I’m thinking about it,” Jones told Betway. “I might try to get in shape in case this happens. Maybe I get into shape for that.

“I never considered doing it before, but given the circumstances of the fight, I think it’s a terrific idea, and I’ll be ready and in shape because if the fight doesn’t happen, the ideal guy to replace Mike Tyson to face Jake Paul is someone I’ve been thinking about. “If the fight is out there, then yes.”

Despite hanging up his gloves six years ago, Jones returned for a bout against former UFC champion Anthony Pettis in September, which he lost on points. The 55-year-old also addressed reports connecting him to a bout with Paul’s former opponent, Tommy Fury, and explored the prospect of meeting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, who was scheduled to fight Darren Till on the Paul vs. Tyson undercard. “I haven’t thought about that because me being me, I only think about is being the best I can be and have never thought about that,” Jones stated. “Then I work it out in the ring.
