In a surprising move that has delighted basketball fans and parents alike, Dinah Mattingly, the wife of NBA legend Larry Bird, announced the launch of a new basketball training program aimed at young athletes. The program, named “Hoops with Heart,” is designed to teach fundamental basketball skills while also emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, and community involvement.
Dinah, who has been married to the Hall of Famer since 1989, has long been a behind-the-scenes supporter of her husband’s illustrious career. However, this marks her first public foray into the basketball world. “Hoops with Heart” will offer clinics and camps across the country, with a special focus on underserved communities.
“Basketball has given our family so much, and we wanted to find a way to give back,” Dinah explained in a recent interview. “This program is about more than just playing the game; it’s about building character and creating opportunities for kids who might not otherwise have them.”
Larry Bird himself has expressed his full support for the initiative. “Dinah has always been passionate about helping others, and this program is a reflection of that,” he said. “I’m excited to see how it will inspire the next generation of players.”
The inaugural “Hoops with Heart” camp is set to kick off this summer in Boston, with plans to expand to other cities by the end of the year. Participants will receive professional coaching, participate in community service projects, and have the chance to meet current and former NBA players.
