Eagles Reportedly Closing a $70 Million Another Top WR After Stefon Diggs Trade.

Jason Kelce was the first one. Another cherished and long-serving Philadelphia Eagle has now formally retired.

Fletcher Cox, a defensive tackle, announced his retirement in a news conference on Tuesday.

Though it wasn’t the dramatic pre-written statement we saw from Kelce, Cox’s farewell was as authentic as they came: it was straightforward, sincere, and precisely how he played every game.

Philadelphians want their favorite teams’ players to put in a lot of work and give it their all on the field.

And Cox has formally retired from the NFL after doing just that for 12 seasons.

According to Cox, “This decision was not easy.” And I’m clearly here today because I knew it was time for me to retire at some point. It carries a wide range of feelings.”

Cox was still playing well and was fit, so maybe it was not a simple choice.

He missed just six games during the regular season in his twelve years with the Eagles.

“This game can mentally and physically take a toll on you and I’ve enjoyed it at the highest level,” Cox stated. “And I felt like I gave this game all I could give.”

Cox is a six-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro when his stint with the Eagles ends. In 188 games, he recorded 70 sacks and claimed a Super Bowl victory.

Does that qualify someone for the Hall of Fame?

“I gotta get in the Eagles’ Hall of Fame first, so that might help me,” Cox stated. However, it’s something I consider. I look forward to wearing a gold jacket someday. Hopefully.”
