“Got a Confession to Make” Why Jordan Montgomery didn’t want to end up with the Red Sox
Six weeks ago, Jordan Montgomery and the Red Sox had their well-known Zoom call. Although the Red Sox aren’t believed to have made a formal offer, Montgomery decided not to go there nevertheless.
Since his wife was undergoing medical study at Beth Israel, which is affiliated with Harvard, there had been conjecture that he may enjoy Boston. However, rumors have it that Montgomery didn’t love the Red Sox because he wants to win, and his wife is transferring to Vanderbilt.
Francisco Alvarez is reported to be open to hearing about a contract extension from the Mets, but they haven’t brought it up yet.
Gerrit Cole had fine commemorative watches engraved for the Yankees who most assisted him in winning the Cy Young award. Cole refused to comment when I questioned him about his kindness. Then Cole gave Jose Trevino a mild reprimand for being my watch source’s primary suspect as he passed by.
Cole, incidentally, reports feeling well and thinks June 1 might be a good time to return.
On the eve of Opening Day, the Red Sox have apparently struck a small deal with an AL East rival.
The 30-year-old right-hander Naoyuki Uwasawa was purchased by the Red Sox from the Rays for cash considerations, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
Uwasawa signed a minor-league deal with the Rays earlier this offseason; the Red Sox have not formally stated whether or not he would be added to their major-league roster.
After playing in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the first nine years of his professional career, Uwasawa is currently in the midst of his debut MLB season. With the Nippon Ham Fighters, he had a fantastic 2023 season despite facing NPB competition, going 9-9 with a 2.96 ERA in 24 games.
