Former Buccaneers QB Tom Brady Terminates Contract As Raiders Took in Another Top…

The NFL Draft is only one month away, and the Las Vegas Raiders are just a few weeks into their free agency. Many Raiders supporters are curious about what will happen at quarterback now that Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell are the only players in the meeting room. Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. has been mentioned multiple times this week.
Now let’s go right into this week’s mailbag.

The Raiders may find it difficult to move up in the draft to select any of the top four quarterbacks, so it makes sense, in my opinion. The next best alternative, Penix, is most likely available at 13 or wouldn’t require a significant trade-up. To get ahead of the Broncos, Las Vegas might jump ahead of them if they were to make a trade with the Jets for the 10th pick.
In the end, I believe Penix is currently their most practical option, and as a sixth-year senior, he is older and more experienced, so he could start right away. He’s currently my pick to be the team’s backup quarterback.

A: As I mentioned above, I could notice Penix beginning Week 1. I see him as being in the high-floor, low-ceiling range, and a large part of this is due to his age and experience. Given how much playing time he has already had, it is difficult to think he will improve significantly, but that should also help him adapt to the NFL more easily than someone like J.J. McCarthy, for example.

Penix is a big-armed quarterback with accuracy problems, so you know what you’re getting. He fits with Luke Getsy more than O’Connell or Minshew, in my opinion. Getsy enjoys dialing up shots down the field and possesses a wealth of deep passing concepts. The Washington product has arm strength issues, but neither of the two quarterbacks on the roster do.
