Seattle Mariners Signed a 5 Years Contract Worth $70 Million With Former Boston Red Sox’ Slugger, Releasing…

A few players were released from the Seattle Mariners’ major league spring training on Sunday, including slugger Michael Chavis, a former member of the Boston Red Sox.
Chavis and Solak stand out the most among the group due to their vast Major League experience. Chavis, 28, made his debut in 2019 and was formerly regarded as one of the Sox organization’s top prospects. He had considerable power in that season, hitting 18 home runs in just 95 games. It did not get better after that, though. Before being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2021, he hit just.190 with the Sox after hitting just.212 with five home runs in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He has since played with the Nationals as well, appearing in 48 games for Washington in 2023.

He has been vying with the Mariners for a backup infielder position, and if he sticks with the team, he may make it to the major leagues by 2024.
Though he has only appeared in two Major League games in 2023, 29-year-old Solak has previously played with the Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves, and Texas Rangers. He played often for the Rangers in 2021.
Last season, the M’s finished 88-74 and were 1.0 game out of the postseason. For the first time since the 2022 campaign, they are attempting to return to the postseason.
