The Hinwil-based team has abandoned its prior push-rod setup at the front in order to continue the trend that Red Bull and McLaren had initiated.

Given how well those two teams had utilized the pull-rod front, Sauber technical director James Key had predicted that this was a logical design direction to pursue.

But as it turned out, only RB followed that path; the other teams stuck to their 2023 configuration.

When asked if he was shocked that other teams had not done the same, Key replied, “I was, actually, a bit.” I anticipated seeing at least one more emerge brandishing a pull-rod.

However, everything must sort of add up. It must align aerodynamically as, in spite of the difficulty in doing it, it is unquestionably a faster vehicle.

We came to this opinion at McLaren early on, and Red Bull has undoubtedly always held it. Furthermore, the study conducted at Sauber in April and June, when they examined the wind tunnel and CFD data, amply demonstrated the sufficient benefit. I find it surprising that others haven’t done the same.

Key clarified that while the new suspension’s early testing in Bahrain last week had been encouraging, adjustments still needed to be made.

He stated, “I think there are a few things we should squeeze out of that a little bit more.” “I joined a little bit late, but overall it accomplishes precisely what it should.

One really wonderful thing about this car, and something I’ve noticed since being at Sauber, is that results from the simulator and logical investigations on specific mechanical aspects appear to match extremely well.

“The automobile is quite pure. It produces the desired outcomes. It’s great to see that it’s not overly boisterous. Thus, the front suspension is operating as it should.

Beyond the suspension modification, Sauber’s new C44 demonstrated some encouraging testing results, though it’s yet unclear how it compares to the competition.
