To succeed, the islanders needs elite goaltending From….

This season, the New York Islanders have placed too much reliance on their goaltender. That’s why the team’s problems become apparent when Ilya Sorokin plays below par. While some have pointed the finger primarily at Sorokin, others have turned their attention to the group.
The Islanders have been particularly bad during the last two months. In the last 20 games, the team has only won six games under regulation. They would be more than seven points behind the third-place Philadelphia Flyers in the Metropolitan Division and more than nine points out of the final wild card berth if it weren’t for the points gained from overtime losses.

Sorokin cannot take whole responsibility, but the Islanders still need more from him. His save percentage (SV%) was.912 in December, when they were in second place in the Metro. He would be ranked seventh among goaltenders with SV% who have played at least 30 games if he kept that number throughout the season.
If Sorokin had comparable numbers to December, there’s a chance the Islanders would be closer in the postseason chase. He has no room for error, which is the issue. The club won’t win many games if the native Russian isn’t at the top of his game. The team is constructed in this manner.
