THINK HE’S BLOCKED: CHRISTIAN HORNER SPILLS THE BEANS ON LOVE HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH…

Critics have compared Red Bull’s decision to go with an aggressive design for their RB20 car to Adrian Newey’s stint at McLaren, when he made “horribly wrong” decisions.

Red Bull won 21 of the 22 races in the 2023 Formula One season, yet despite this dominance, the team made significant changes to their chassis for this year, especially in the sidepod area.

At first glance, the RB20 sidepods bear a resemblance to Mercedes’ early in the previous year, which was mistakenly attributed to their declining performance.

Commentator Alex Jacques brought up the early issues with the Newey-designed McLaren MP4-18 during F1’s testing coverage in Bahrain.

“How do you decide what’s best? How do you make a bad decision? Does Adrian Newey ever make a mistake? Jacques stated.

“Recall the McLaren that he made a terrible mistake with. The MP4-18, which was groundbreaking when it was released, featured features like a blown diffuser that we hadn’t seen until many, many years later.

He hasn’t always made the correct decisions, and back then McLaren had to go back to the previous model.

“It would be interesting if Red Bull had to choose an RB20 that was B-spec.
