It should come as no surprise to anyone that C.J. Stroud, the rookie quarterback for the Texans, was a competent passer. It shouldn’t be too difficult to meet the standard of “capable” when you’re the second overall pick. But my BINGO card for 2023 did not include Stroud having one of the best rookie seasons ever in league history, regardless of position.
But that’s precisely what took place. Along with Tom Brady and Joe Montana, Stroud became just the third quarterback in league history to lead the league in passing yards per game and touchdown to interception ratio in the same season. Both of those individuals were excellent football players and formidable opponents on any list when I last checked.
As we enter the second year of the Stroud Era in Houston, anticipation is through the roof. Now that he has the Offensive Rookie of the Year trophy tucked away above his fireplace, Stroud is focusing on becoming the NFL’s Most Valuable Player of 2024.
