Packers have secured a new stadium site valued at up to $20,000,000,000 Billion. When they….

Let’s finally focus on the Green Bay Packers’ 2024 roster now that the 2023 campaign has officially concluded and the team has hired defensive coaches for the following campaign. Before free agency, of course, there are still cap choices to be made, but every offseason begins with concerns that a team may choose to address.

In my opinion, the club needs help in the following four positions: safety, offensive line, linebacker, and running back. Please leave a word in the comments area below if you think this is the right place to consider another position.

Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon, co-starters at running back, are in question. Although Jones is nearing the conclusion of his deal, which has a $17 million cap cost in 2024, general manager Brian Gutekunst stated during his year-end press conference that he hopes to see Jones return for the following campaign. Although Dillon is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March, head coach Matt LaFleur stated that he is welcome to return to the team, most likely in the event that he determines he won’t be making a sizable profit in free agency. The only other backs under contract for the upcoming season are Ellis Merriweather and undrafted rookie Aaron Jones from 2023.

The positions of left tackle and right guard on the offensive line are suspect ones. Although Rasheed Walker, a second-year, seventh-round pick, performed admirably at left tackle, is that reason alone to ignore a strong tackle class? At this position, a lot will depend on David Bakhtiari’s health. He hasn’t played many games since tearing his ACL in 2020. Assume that the team will decide—one way or another—by mid-March, when Bakhtiari is scheduled to get a sizable roster bonus.

Starting right guard Jon Runyan Jr., who spent the second part of the 2023 season rotating in and out of the lineup with Sean Rhyan, is scheduled to become a free agency. Right now, the question is whether the team will let Rhyan enter the next season as the undisputed starter or if Rhyan will be utilized as a player to push for a starting position at center or right guard.

The squad is planning to switch from a 3-4 to a 4-3 defense, thus linebacker will be an interesting position. This means that the Packers will need to switch from using two base packages of off-ball linebackers to using three. Green Bay now lacks three linebackers that are deserving of the title of starters, to put it mildly. With the expected cap casualty of De’Vondre Campbell, the team will only have three players under contract for the 2024 season: safety-convert Christian Young, Isaiah McDuffie, and Quay Walker. Young signed a reserve/futures contract. Whoa. The squad could need to add three extra players to the position just based on math.
