There was a dark period in Cleveland Browns history in November of 1995.

Then-team owner Art Modell declared his plan to transfer the Browns to Baltimore on November 4, 1995, right in the middle of what would have been a 5-11 season.

In the midst of his sixth season as the Browns’ coach, Bill Belichick was unable to inspire his team, and when the season came to an end, supporters tore apart the historic Cleveland Municipal Stadium.

The NFL formally approved Modell’s departure on February 9, 1996, however it also announced that plans were underway for the Browns to relocate back to Cleveland in 1999.

Construction of a brand-new, cutting-edge facility for the city was a part of the concept.

The Browns did return to Ohio in 1999 and have been playing in said stadium ever since.

Just recently, however, the team has shared their intentions to build a brand new facility in the near future.
