Eagles Reportedly Have Second-Best Odds To Land Frontline Starter Despite Pessimism

According to Tim McManus, the Philadelphia Eagles are changing up their coaching staff by hiring Bobby King, a former inside linebackers coach for the Tennessee Titans, to a new position in Philly.

The Eagles were targeting former defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell of the Jacksonville Jaguars and coordinator Joe Barry of the Green Bay Packers, but they managed to slip through the cracks and find new positions elsewhere. Caldwell joined the Las Vegas Raiders, while Barry signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins.

King’s hire was probably influenced by his relationship with the Eagles’ current personnel, especially his previous employment in San Diego with Nick Sirianni. Let’s look at his coaching background:

During their tenure in San Diego, King and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni overlapped by three seasons. In addition, he has coached Zach Cunningham, a player that Howie Roseman of the Eagles praised at the team’s postseason news conference. King’s hire suggests that Cunningham, who is scheduled to become a free agency in March, may return to the Eagles in 2024.

After a coaching change, the Eagles are hoping that Bobby King will help the linebackers perform better after they had difficulties in the previous campaign.
