Wolverines Confirmed The Signing Of Another Top Super Star Who Was Tipped For…

The Los Angeles Chargers have quickly filled the coordinator jobs.

NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Tuesday that the Chargers are adding Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter as their next DC. The team subsequently verified the report.

Rapoport then revealed that Los Angeles had reached an agreement with former offensive coordinator Greg Roman of the Ravens to take over as the team’s offensive coordinator.

Minter managed Michigan’s defense for the previous two seasons under Jim Harbaugh, who hired him back to his staff after becoming the head coach of Los Angeles.

Minter and Harbaugh were key players in the Wolverines’ victory in the College Football Playoff National Championship game the previous year. The Washington Huskies, who were coming off a 37-point performance in the Sugar Bowl, had an explosive attack that averaged 37.6 points per game. In that game, the 40-year-old defense gave up just 13 points to their formidable opponent.

Minter worked his way up from defensive assistant to defensive backs coach under Jim Harbaugh, his brother, in Baltimore from 2017 to 2020 before joining the Wolverines as defensive coordinator. Before moving to Michigan, he was the defensive coordinator at Vanderbilt for one season.

Following a 63-21 Week 15 loss to the Raiders, the Chargers fired head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco. Since then, the team has made significant changes to their franchise’s trajectory. On Tuesday, they reunited a Michigan power duo and one from Jim Harbaugh’s more distant past. First, they lured Jim Harbaugh back to the NFL and paired him with new general manager Joe Hortiz, another Baltimore connection.

From 2009 to 2010, Roman was Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator at Stanford. Following Minter’s lead, Roman played the same position with the 49ers from 2011 to 2014.

Similar to Minter, the 51-year-old coordinator oversaw Buffalo’s offense in 2015–16 and collaborated with John Harbaugh in Baltimore. He worked with their staff for six years, the last four of which he spent as the OC in charge of Lamar Jackson’s growth.

Roman departed from the team prior to the 2023 season and did not play for the team that year. Now that he’s back with the younger Harbaugh, Justin Herbert, another gifted player, will be in charge of Roman’s offense. However, Herbert will approach it very differently than Jackson or even Colin Kaepernick did.

Similar to their offensive unit, L.A.’s defense is strong enough to compete with players like Josh Bosa, Derwin James, and Khalil Mack. Nevertheless, in 2023, both teams failed; the offensive ranked 21st in scoring, while the defense came in at number 24.

As they support Harbaugh’s most recent effort at a franchise turnaround, Minter and Roman will be expected to build on that foundation and produce greater outcomes going forward.
