Bills Head Coach Reveals, Ex-Player Rex Ryan is Going to Be…

When the Dallas Cowboys interviewed former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer for the position of defensive coordinator, there were raised eyebrows. Although it’s not fatal, Zimmer’s two seasons away from the game could hurt his chances of winning. Not having held a coaching post will not automatically rule out any of Dallas’ applicants. Rex Ryan, the former head coach of the Buffalo Bills, conducted an interview for the Cowboys’ position on Wednesday, according to Josina Anderson.

Ryan led the Bills in 2015 and 2016 before Sean McDermott, the current head coach of Buffalo. Since then, he has not worked as a professional coach. When the oddball defensive mind joined ESPN in 2017, he immediately brought his persona to the screen. Perhaps Ryan’s most well-known defensive plays come from his tenure as head coach of the New York Jets (2009–2014). He led Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez to consecutive AFC Championship Games, but he was unable to overcome the obstacle.

The pinnacle of his coaching career came when he defeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the 2010 AFC Divisional Round. Twelve miles northwest of the Big Apple, Ryan was a highly regarded defensive strategist who had won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens before coming to the Big Apple. In 1999, he began serving as a defensive line coach for Baltimore. He was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2005 and associate head coach in 2008. Associated:
