FINAL DEAL: The Phillies sign a $66.2 million contract with an incredible forward.

Dalton Guthrie, a shortstop-turned-outfielder, was with the Phillies, Braves, and Giants’ organizations in Triple-A for the majority of 2023. He is presently scheduled to join the Red Sox organization.

The MiLB transaction log indicates that Dalton Guthrie was signed by the Boston Red Sox to a minor league deal on Wednesday.

Guthrie spent time in 2023 with the minor league teams of the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves in addition to having come up through the Philadelphia Phillies’ farm system during the previous few years. With 37 MLB games under his belt, the 28-year-old shortstop-turned-outfielder has experience.

In the sixth round of the 2017 MLB Draft, the Phillies selected Florida native Guthrie, who had aided the Gators in winning the College World Series in his junior year.

By 2021, Guthrie had risen to Triple-A, and he remained there for nearly the entire year. That September, Philadelphia summoned him up to the majors, where he hit.333 in 14 games with an OPS of.976 and 0.4 WAR. Guthrie was added to the Phillies’ NLDS roster, but he did not play in any at-bats throughout the series.

Guthrie scored some more runs in the major leagues in 2023. But after that, he started to struggle, hitting.167 in 23 games with a.494 OPS and 0.3 WAR.
