The Defender for Leeds United is expected to go on a free transfer this summer.

Leeds, with an average age of 32, will likely have to rely on a younger group of players to lead them back to the Premier League. This season, the defender has only made 12 appearances. Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk are the team’s two starting spots.

This follows Luke Ayling’s loan arrival at Middlesbrough earlier in the month. At the club, everything seems to be shifting from an old guard to a new generation.

“Somewhere down the line, though not in this window, Cooper is highly likely to follow, with all the indications that his deal will not be renewed in May,” Phil Hay stated this morning in The Athletic regarding the situation surrounding the former Chesterfield player. “He is more involved under Farke than Ayling was.” It will be a sad day for the Whites to have to say goodbye to a player who has played 277 games over nearly ten years. There hasn’t been any public interest from other clubs as of yet regarding the English defender, but if he can stay fit, there should be a number of teams vying for his services.

Over the years, Cooper has been a revelation for Leeds, but recent injuries have made it difficult for him to get any kind of regular playing time. Given his advanced age and history of injuries, the club must decide. For a player who has accomplished so much for the team, saying goodbye will be difficult, but it is necessary if they are to advance.
